Jay Robb Whey Protein Review

The supplement were going to be reviewing today is Jay Robb whey protein.

Jay Robb’s whey protein is for the most part a unknown product. The company isn’t too big and I noticed that there weren’t enough reviews out there on this protein. The only reason I happen to even come across it is because my good friend bought some due to the fact he ran out of whey and his usual whey protein wasn’t in stock at the store. When I was at his house I noticed the strange looking bag on his kitchen counter and I decided to try some. Soon after I left his house I stopped by at my local vitamin shoppe and bought a small bag for the sake of reviewing.

Ingredients and Price

As soon as I checked the label I noticed that there wasn’t anything too special or glamorous in the protein in terms of ingredients. It was you basic whey protein isolate with the usual amino acids and such. Now that isn’t necessarily a bad thing because I know a lot of companies like to put useless fillers in their formula just to jack up the price. What made this whey protein awesome was the fact it was real low in calories, sugars, carbs, etc. Being a health junkie, I always like to keep the amount of calories I get from supplements low and keep the amount of calories I get from real food higher.

Although the nutritional value and ingredients are good, the price in my opinion is a not. You pay $25 for 12oz (0.75lbs). If your a person that must buy in small amounts or are strictly about saving money then you can pick up Optimum Nutrition’s Gold Standard Whey Protein for $15 a pound. With that said, there are  a lot of brands out there that give you a lot more for a lot less.

PRICE: 4/10

Taste and Mixability

When I mixed this protein, I did it with water and I must say I was very impressed with how easily the protein mixed. It was one of the few proteins that didn’t leave any chunks or required the use of my finger to pick up the rest of the pieces off the side of the glass.

MIXABILITY: 10/10

I absolutely need my supplements to taste good. As a fitness enthusiast I never eat any sweets or sugars but I am only human and I do crave for that stuff once in a while. I rely on my supplements to fill those cravings for me. Jay robb whey protein did just that. I was very pleased with the taste and I could say I could go as far as drink it all the time as a normal drink. Yes… it tasted THAT GOOD!

TASTE: 10/10

Overall

All in all, this is a good whey protein.

I had solid gains in my workouts for the short time I was on it and I looked forward to taking it everyday due to the excellent taste. I would definitely recommend this product if your willing to dish out a few extra bucks.

OVERALL: 7.5/10

excellent whey… no cholesterol, no fats, no carbs, no sugars, from grass fed cows not treated with rBGH, taste greate (chocolate, dunno the other flavors)…. it is a little expensive but your are paying for a good, clean, and “natural” product…… 5lbs >$130

Not worth the money and is not a clean product. Does not say grass fed cows on the package, and is not 100% free of rBGH. Made with rBGH free whey protein does not mean it is 100% free. Jay Robb lies about the quality of his Whey protein,do your research.

I started using Jay Robb Whey actually for medical reasons. I had a wound that wouldn’t heal and the Doctor told me to add a protein supplement. So I went to the store and started reading labels.

had taken a protein supplement in the past and knew that they could be nasty tasting and stocked full of calories and sugar that I didn’t want.

I came across Jay Robb’s Whey products and saw it was low in calories and sugar.
So I gave it a try, I really expected it to taste pretty nasty. The stuff is like drinking a milkshake! I usually drink three a day, especially since I can go back into the gym and workout.

Good stuff! I’ll be drinking it for awhile! (You can shop around and usually find it at a good price.)

If you goto supper supplements you can get it for around $16 for 24 oz.
I’ve read a couple different books & they both recomened it. Plus it tastes the best.

    i have had more brands of protein than i can remember, but once I found Jay Robb, I’ve been a loyal customer. Good stuff and the absolutely, bar none, best tasting protein powder on the market. For that reason alone, I don’t mind paying extra. all of the flavors are good;

I don’t know what the heck is in that stuff but 15 minutes later…zonk asleep…will never try it again. I have never napped during the day, nor slept. Ok, a couple times when I had surgery and was sick as a dog. Scared me and will never ingest it again.

  7. Gravityfails says:

Kathy, the sleepiness you experienced after taking JR’s whey protein is probably due to the 443 mg of tryptophan that it contains — when ingested (especially in a super-absorbable form such as liquid whey protein isolate, and especially especially if you took it on an empty stomach), tryptophan turns into serotonin, which your brain then turns into melatonin. Hence, sleepiness, even in the middle of the day.

Personally, I find the taste of this stuff repugnant, but it is very good for muscle gain and performance increases. I’ve found nothing better.
